Our philosophy
In 1999 WaterCar was just a personal challenge, to build the world’s fastest amphibious vehicle. Fourteen years, countless successes and failures, 27 patents, and untold labor hours later that personal challenge was achieved and we began to consider offering these vehicles to the public.
Early WaterCars were purpose built vehicles, to be very fast on both land and water. Once we had established the Guinness amphibious speed record we turned our attention to reliability. We went through several engine manufacturers before choosing Honda for power. Our bodies are constructed of hand laid vinylester, our frames are built from chromoly steel for strength and powder coated for corrosion protection. Brake rotors and calipers are stainless steel as are most suspension components. Where stainless is not available, we use e-coated aluminum or chrome plated steel for our wetted surfaces.
Throughout our development years we were continually approached by people around the world who wished to purchase a WaterCar. While we were flattered by the attention and the apparent market acceptance, we did not feel we had attained a level of reliability and maintainability consistent with our personal standards and those of our prospective buyers. It was difficult to say no for all those years but WaterCars are custom vehicles built by a small team of professionals who take great pride in what they build and how it performs. The team was adamant they would not sell a product they themselves would not purchase. In 2013 the team realized they had finally achieved the quality, reliability, and maintainability that allowed them to offer WaterCars for purchase, believing the vehicles showcased the craftsmanship and pride with which they were created and the reliability and maintainability owners would expect.
Each WaterCar is unique. We encourage each buyers active participation in the final appearance of their vehicle. The range of interior and exterior fabrics, colors, and graphics is unlimited. WaterCar’s ultimate goal is to build a vehicle that is a source of enjoyment to you and an ongoing source of pride to us.
Sincerely,
Your WaterCar Team
